Long time no..

This is the latest ridiculous flame war I have had the displeasure of viewing in a long time. Childish and fruitless as well as telling of the author...

What is a 4GL? Give us all a break!

John,

My apologies for interrupting your bro-mance with Birket, but there is no evidence of a Grammar for a so-called a 'Fourth Generation Language' in what you write, so I can safely conclude that you are in complete agreement that no such thing exists.
It appears that no other member of the List can find a Grammar either, so we are in good company.

In a similar vein, I'm sure you've heard Radio, TV and other Media commentators say "The British Open" when no such thing exists (similar to the non-existence of a '4GL' Grammar). The correct title is "The Open Championship".
They also refer to the winner as 'The British Open Champion' when they should say "The Champion Golfer of the Year".

There is no such tournament in any sport named "The British Open" (well, maybe Tiddlywinks, but that's called "The UK Tiddlywinks Championship" http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/10943662/Britain-can-still-be-sporting-champions...-in-tiddlywinks.html )
(please beware of a wrap-around)

I do hope Terry O'Brien is pleased with this feedback.

Kindest Regards,
Tom.
