We use Fantasia to manage our printer forms. Our existing Lexmark
T632s are getting a little long in the tooth so we are seeking a
replacement. We tried the Kyocera FS4200DN which works well enough,
save for one nasty feature. Our form overlays and special fonts just
'disappear' from the printer on a regular basis.
After working with the vendor and trying different settings I stumbled
across a technical reference footnote that describes what I feel is
likely the culprit. Reportedly, if this printer does not get any
print jobs in a sixty minute period then it literally powers itself
off. Since the printer responds to printing however long there is
between jobs I can only infer that the device has some sort of
low-level controller software that keeps the network interface powered
up and simply turns on the rest of the printer when talked to.
I suspect that the side-effect of the power down is to flush the
printer memory thus clearing the resident forms and fonts. I cannot
get this confirmed from the vendor but that explanation is congruent
with the symptoms.
Has anyone encountered this situation before on any printer connected
to their HP? Has anyone a recommendation for a late-model pcl4/5
compatable laser printer that works well with the HP3000?
