A followup note on my XCLOSE approach ...

STORECAT.PUB.SYS is protected in two manners, sigh.

It's open, and it's marked "PROTECTED" (a rarely used flag in a file label).

The XCLOSE utility can close the file (I tested it :), but that leaves
the file still PROTECTED ... which prevents both renaming and purging.

The DeFrag/iX product has an ALTFILE command that can unprotect a file.
Allegro also has an internal utility to unprotect a file (our free XMONOFF
will at least report the PROTECTED flag, if it's on, but it won't remove it).
I don't know of any other utilities that can unprotect a file.

Once closed and unprotected, *then* the file can be deleted/moved.

Stan
