Thanks to the first two responders who replied.

Turns out all I had to do was fix the PC NIC configuration.

Somehow it got reset to to something else and the old 10Base-T Console port didn't like it.

Also turned off Client for Microsoft Networks and File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks on it.  WhyTF anyone would do that on a one wire-single purpose connection is anyone's guess.)
