If you did a start recovery, then you will lose the changes. A start norecovery would have saved your changes.
The product you are looking for is part of the autorestart package. Dump to disk, it requires a separate dump-to-disk volume set. Very easy to set up, takes no more than 10 minutes to do a full dump on a fibre connected n-class.
