Target now does the same thing whenever I buy beer.

So, if I'm checking out during a slow period and there is no one behind me in line, instead of a drivers license, I pull out my my Military ID. (Not mentioning the fact it is a Retired Reserve ID.) To the clerk's frustration it doesn't scan as it uses one of those bar code types it is not coded for. Half the time, the clerk will ask me, "Don't you have a driver's license?". I'll answer, "No, I just got off the plane and walked over from the hotel across the street."

Of course this requires the clerk to call the Floor Manager to the register and insert a key to bypass the forced scanning procedure.

I think this would work with a Passport also. If it is not a driver's license, the cash register program does not know what to do.

Being in the scrap industry, we are required to scan drivers licenses and record the purchases to the city of Milwaukee along with the DL information.

We are currently using SMaware Infoscan but the vendor is more or less scrubbing the product which means any changes to the DL's are no longer supported.

I'm wondering if anybody out here on the list is doing something similar and what product are you using.

Thanks in advance.

Dave
