Hello

Could it be that there is confusion about the term 'Internet printer', my first thought would be that this is a printer using the Internet Printing Protocol (IPP). An IPP printer listens on port 631, where a 'standard' network printer mostly listens on port 9100. A printer status page usually shows on which ports the printer is listening or which protocols are enabled. I'm not aware of IPP clients running on MPE.

Hope this helps

Best regards

Johan

Subject: [HP3000-L] Mpe: HP printing to remote Internet Printer

We are located in the southern teir of New York State and run MACS on an HP 939-20. Our corporate offices are in Columbus Ohio and the need has arisen to print reports directly from the HP to a printer in Columbus. The chosen printer is a Lexmark and is set up as an Internet Printer. I have the IP address and can successfully ping the printer. It has been configured in npconfig much the same as all of our local network printers:

224 (network_address = xxx.xx.xx.xx # PRTOHIO
      setup_file = PCLLPSGA.HPENV.SYS
      message_interval = 60)

and it is configured on the system:

%showdev prtohio
 LDEV AVAIL OWNERSHIP VOLID DEN ASSOCIATION

  224     SPOOLED       SPOOLER OUT
%

When I try to print to the remote printer I get a "Device not responding" message. What is the best configuration and means of getting this to work? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.
