have you already tried the latest SMB patch level for MPE/iX ?

I believe, that Windows Vista, 2008 and 7 changed the authentication
methods that they accept or reject by default. If you don't want to
start tweaking settings like LmCompatibilityLevel, AllowNT4Crypto
and NoLmHash in RegEdit, you should first try the latest SMB228A
patch level (going beyond 2.2.8 for selected files as part of some
security fix).

I don't have access to HP patch web pages to look up details now.
