here is what I am told
Samba 3.2.12 is the absolute minimum version of Samba required for Windows
7 machines to be able to connect.  Samba versions prior to 3.5 require
that registry changes be made on the Windows 7 machine, however.

i suspect hp samba port is older than the minimum
