I want to splice the following line to the current line whilst in
Modify mode using control character commands.

I have a vague recollection of doing this ages ago but I cannot find
any documentation of such a feature. Is it possible? How is it
done if so?

I am not talking about the glue command, which one calls with
arguments from the command interface.
