In our experience with Win7 the driver issues are not so much with chassis, but things like printers, and older but still usable expensive items like Canon plotters .
If you have any such devices you want to continue using, it's a bit of a crap shoot.

Ok, now everything makes sense.
I would definitely want to install Windows 7 on either machine, so I would visit the HP website, such as it is, and see if the have Windows 7 drivers for the machines.
I'm also a max memory guy when it comes to PCs, I like to have as much memory as I can afford or fit in. Windows likes memory much more than a high speed CPU. I have also fallen in love with solid state drives; my laptop boots in 18 seconds and it has two drives; an SSD as C: and a huge
rotating 7200 RPM drive as E:. One day I will replace both with a pair of
huge SSDs. But not within the next few months.
