We use some msg files in our system to request background jobs to print various documents as they become available. Whenever the system goes down unexpectedly, as in power losses outside UPS capacity, these files can be left damaged and don't work properly. The writing process doesn't get any errors, but the readers don't get any data.
I added some purges to sysstart in an attempt to clean this up (the writer programs rebuild the files if not found), but it hasn't worked. On reading up on sysstart commands, it seems there are only a few commands that are legal, and PURGE isn't one them....Does this seem consistent with people's observations ?

The relevant system is in Tx, while I am in Oz, so it's difficult to see what happens at boot time, or to get anybody on site who knows what to look for to report back error msgs.

Still surprises me that Houston can suffer so many power losses.....

I have built a job containing the purge commands that I am streaming from sysstart, so I hope this will fix things in future.

Regards,

John Pitman
