Please ignore the autochanger query - on re-examining my code for HPDEVCONTROL, I found I had catered for 1 and 2 digit device numbers in the string passed, but I had configured the drive as dev 777. This produced a string dev no of 77, which doesn't exist as a tape drive. Once I fixed this, works a treat....

Thanks for your attention.

Regards,

John Pitman

It's been a very long time, and my DDS autochanger is stored away somewhere,
but for the next tape to be brought online automatically, I seem to remember
there had to be a special setting with the dip switches.

As for being able to control the robot itself, you definitely need to have
the SCSI passthru driver configured and loaded and then you need a program
to actually issue the IOCTL calls to the robot with the properly formatted
SCSI commands. There was such a program a long time ago from a vendor but
that's all gone now.

We have an autochanger as well as a single drive DDS unit. On the single its
easy (with Stan S's help), using a call to something to bring a tape that
has just been used back on line ,
With the autochanger, after a tape is used, the drive IS ready to load the
next tape (2 lights on front), but the drive shows as not ready. When a
request for a tape is received , the next tapes comes up and works.
Does any body know how to programmatically control such autochangers please?
Eg to select a slot, and load the tape and come to ready?

Thanks
john
