Being aware of the risk I could be starting something very messy here, and
please bear in mind the obvious, and any un-obvious caveats will apply, ie its
not my fault if it does not work, it breks your machine, or gets you into lots of
trouble, but I have seen sucess in the past in using a microwave oven.
We experimented a few years back using it as a way of wiping disks, seems
the plan B version we had (Which was a mixture of water, a bucket and lots of
towels to clean up the mess) was deemed to be insecure. I had to agree, but
as the method had been dictated by the then IT Manager we followed
instruction.
Failing that, and knowing what a super Health System you have out there
(ouch!) - I do not want to get into that, I worked with a company a few
years ago, whereby a donation to the hospital charity allowed us to drop off
quite a few thousand tapes that were wiped in a few seconds in their xray
machine.
Just my few thoughts, dont try it at home.
