Define it in the dictionary as a normal direct file:
File MSGFILE Organization Direct Type MPE ASCII

In Quick use something like:
File MSGFILE Designer Open Semiexclusive Append

In Qtp use something like:
Output MSGFILE add
and
Set File MSGFILE Open Semiexclusive Append

And issue a file equate for Qtp users like:
:file msgfile;nolock

Hi,

I haven't done much with Cognos since Y2K and am trying to figure out
how to define/write to a message file.

Does anyone happen to have a stub of code that shows how to define and
implement this?
