Judging from the manual, I would guess the tape drive is failing.

1741       MESSAGE    SENDMAIL TO SYSGEN FROM STORE FAILED. (S/R 1741)
           CAUSE      Internal error occurred during the creation of
                      combined SLT/Store set.

           ACTION     Contact your HP Support Representative.
