Well, you are somewhat in luck -- not two hours ago I stumbled across
this video that explains the "credit crisis"

but I'm not sure if it will let you sleep any better at night -- given
what you mentioned above, the video could be considered propaganda to
support the need for a bailout (though perhaps in a somewhat perverse
way) but I think it shows how the bankers/wall-street, and perhaps even
the consumers all "conspired" (without necessarily realizing it) to
create this death-spiral...
