Thanks for the reply Gilles. It's been awhile, hasn't it. I'll forward this on and see if it works.

Subject: Re: [HP3000-L] VPLUS Field with an Enhancement Type of Security

I also recall a bug in FORMSPEC resulting in such a result.

Instead of looking for the appropriate patch, an option you could try
is to use a technique for field security that was used in FORMSPEC
prior to the availablity of the "S" field-type option together with
the correct updated HP terminal.

That technique involves defining the initial value of the field as an
invokation of a non-existant alternate character set and shifting to it.

This is done by initializing the field value to a string of escape
sequences that do the following:

1. define the non-existant alternate character set. (whose escape
sequence is contained in any HP terminal technical reference manual
or Reflection Technical Reference manual - neither of which I have
handy at the moment)
2. shift in to the alternate character set (which, I believe is the
'cntrl-n' key combination - 'cntl-o' shifts back out to the original
character set).

Make the changes, recompile and you should be good to go.
