Hi,

Hp3000 mpe/ix

I have a flat ascii std file that is populated by a quick screen. This screen is
driven by users and is avtive 24/7. I was wondering if it was possible to "fool"
the file into behaving like a message file or fool cobol into thinking it was a
message file. What i am looking for is the feature of a msg file where cobol
waits for the next record to enter the file then processs it.

I want to see if it is possible for the data to be Pushed to cobol (cobol is just
waiting for the data) versus I have to pull the data out (sequiental read)

I am attempting to see the best way to get the last record or records entered
by the quick screen I don't want the full file each time and it needs to be as
real time as I can make it.

I was just wondering if anybody had any suggestions (I wouldn't be an expert
at this level on the 3000) or has done something similar.

Anne
p.s I cannot change the quick screen and the system requires shared access.
