Won't work Greg.  I actually did this by accident a while ago when verifying 
some old alphabet boxes - popped a 918 cpu in a 9X7 chassis - an alternating 
Bxxx / DEAD error occurred - didn't damage the board though.  

9X7 and 9X8 series are different in too many ways - 917 has a CPU and a 
memory board - 918 has both on the same board.  Backplanes are different, 
and if Partsurfer wasn't so slow I could tell you whether or not the power 
supplies are different - probably are.  Bottom line - too much different, and 
definately not just plug and play.  

You could test your board if you had an F series chassis to play with.

As for your HP-IB printers - if they are 256X series, then you can go to the 
RS232/424 interface and either run that way, or add an external jetdiect box 
to hit via IP.

All currently available through CTS Arizona - go figure...
