Want to learn how to dance salsa, meringue, and bachata?  Instructors
will teach the steps to these dances and then let the group use what it
has learned.  Everyone is invited to attend this always popular UTC
event.  Dress up or come as you are.  Also, you don't need to bring a
dance partner to participate.

WHAT IS SALSA DANCING?  The word salsa is Spanish for sauce which in
this context refers to something with a spicy flavor.  Salsa dancing
combines a variety of dance styles that originated in Latin America,
North America, and the Caribbean.  Salsa music is a "popular music of
Latin American origin that has absorbed characteristics of rhythm and
blues, jazz, and rock." Both salsa dancing and salsa music also have a
strong African influence.

 

WHAT IS MERINGUE?- a ballroom dance of Haitian and Dominican origin

 

WHAT IS BACHATA?- a Latin dance that originated in the Dominican
Republic

 

Salsa, meringue, and bachata are the essential dances of Latin American
dance clubs.
