What is salsa dancing? The word salsa is Spanish for sauce which in
this context refers to something with a spicy flavor. Salsa dancing
combines a variety of dance styles that originated in Latin America,
North America, and the Caribbean. Salsa music is a "popular music of
Latin American origin that has absorbed characteristics of rhythm and
blues, jazz, and rock."
