Join the Africana Minor Studies Committee in presenting a live musical performance and lecture by Dr. Clark White (An Afternoon of the Blues: Performance and Lecture), accompanied by Sammy Blue. The event is open to the general campus.
Dr. Clark White is a sociologist, blues musician and blues impresario. A self-described “organic public intellectual” he is leader of the “deaconbluz and the holysmoke band”, which plays traditional songs from the American Blues Songbook. Dr. White is also a nationally known blues educator.
Sammy Blue is another journeyman musician who’s paid his dues in full. He is one of those rare artists who has never sought fame and riches from the music industry, instead devoting more than thirty years to being totally real about the music while developing his own musical style, persona and a powerful stage presentation.
Sponsored by UTC’s Africana Studies Minor Program, College of Arts and Sciences, and the Department of Criminal Justice.
The event will be held on Tuesday, October 30, 2007 in the Auditorium of the University Center. The agenda follows:
