Hpvariable in FTP

I'm trying to automate an FTP process.  A get.  The file is in
MMDDYY.12345.txt format.  The numbers "12345" are constant.

So to automate I have tried:

Get !hpmonth!hpdate!hpyear.12345.txt infile.pub

Evidently FTP does not recognize the hpvariables from within FTP.

Anybody with any quick advice ?
