[HP3000-L] OT: Way off topic

Members of the list,

The members of this list have a lot in common. The obvious being the
HP3000.

I signed on my first HP3000, probably around 1978. My first "real" job
was in 1982, I can't remember the model, but I have worked on a Series III
and an N-Class 750, and every model in between.

Now as we have gotten older, and HP has retired the HP3000, it seems not
a month goes by without hearing about the passing of one of our fellow
friends. Every month I hear about this friend or that friend that has
been diagnosed with cancer.

One of my best friends, has been through prostate cancer and an
emergency brain anuerism in the last year alone. This is one of the
healthiest guys I know. He doesn't smoke or drink, he eats right and
exercises everyday.

So given all the bad news I have been hearing lately, I thought I might
share a moment of happiness.

I am willing to bet there are a large percentage of Grandfathers on this
list. We are all about the same age, however some of us are in different
"stages" of our lives.

About 9 months ago, Mr. Ray Shahan, found sadistic pleasure in announcing
an event in the Lalley family.

Well it is time to make it formal. On Saturday, Sept 31 at 4:57pm,
weighing in at 8lb, 4oz, little Miss Bethany Joy Lalley, came into the
world. That would be daughter number four and child number 5 in the
Lalley Clan. Samuel our oldest recently turned 8.

So I am far from being a Grandfather. However I will be stuck in the
father role for the next few decades.

I hear retirement is highly overrated.
