It's been awhile, but I assume that Adager only manages (Turbo)Image
databases. If that is true, a manual master is laid out using a
hashing algorithm that spreads the data records out based on capacity.
This would be a nightmare to recover from, let alone just keep
essentially to manual masters up-to-date until the old one can be
dropped.
There would be no theoretical problem reducing a detail set to its
highwater mark, and shouldn't be much of a problem to compress a
detail set creating a new highwater mark to reduce it further.
Automatic masters are relatively easy to recover, but would be messy
to do during while being actively updated.
