A sub-committee of the General Education committee, co-chaired by
Jim Hiestand and Lynn Ourth, is charged with looking into establishing a
3-hour capstone general education course. Nicholas Boer and Peggy Kovach
are also on the sub-committee.

At this point we envision juniors and seniors might choose this
course, which is likely to be conducted as a seminar. The idea is to
involve much of their academic skills and include students from different
disciplines who may contribute different ideas and information. Each
semester a topic would be selected from issues such as globalization, global
warming, gender, great technical failures, and leadership. This course
would not increase the total number of general education hours.

If you have topics you'd like to suggest send them to us. We
are especially interested in faculty willing to take part in such a course.
If you are, please let us know!

The possibility also exists that a series of 1-credit courses
might be established to address certain skills that many students lack.

           Thank you for your response.

           Capstone general education sub-committee
