We had a similar problem when sending some print-file via FTP to a
specialised printer shop.

The temporary solution we implmented was to put the FTP jobs in their
own job queue rather than the default system job queue. Thus, if the
job hangs, you don't hold up the rest of the schedule.

Subject: [HP3000-L] Checking for FTP Success

I have some jobs that FTP outbound from out HP3000 and they have been
getting hung out to dry.

When I manually FTP (in a DOS window) the same Domain Name the jobs are
using it also fails.

The TIMEOUT parameter does not work. (Someone said that one has to get
a connection before TIMEOUT will work in FTP, seems odd.)

I'm wondering if is there a way to check if a DNS site accesible is
working before one enters FTP?

Then I could sandwich my FTP commands between an IF THEN ... ENDIF
statement.

I mean I could PING, but does PING set a JCW if it succeeds or anything
like that?
