It just so happens that I've replaced a slower hub with a switch and replaced
the router with one that supports VPN. I will keep the bad switch idea in mind.
It does turn out that the problem showed up recently and I replaced both items
on the network recently as well.

Another suggestion I received was to add a simple router to the slow ethernet
connection on the HP3000 and route traffic to the HP via that router and
connecting that router to our LAN. This could eliminate the
possibility that the
HP is getting overwhelmed by all the network traffic, creating
timeout issues for
Telnet, since the Nic on the HP3000 would essentially only have Telnet traffic.

It looks like I still need to set up the other LAN card up in NMMGR.
The 100 Mbps
card's physical address is 0/0/0/0 , which is printed on the inside back of the
3000. The slower port just indicates it is the LAN Console and doesn't show up
at all in Sysgen, as far as I can see. Do I have to run Mapper to find out?
