Hmm.... I'm still happily using it. But I don't do prompting in batch, or run
it under MPEX, and I prefer implied run anyway because the job listing looks a
little cleaner.

By "only get 512 characters of string input in batch" are you refering to
MPE's limit on how many characters you can have in "info"? That could be a
problem sometimes. It helps to use setvars for things like server name,
subject, mail-from, etc.

The list of variables it can accept has grown with recent enhancements, and
there have been other improvements. If you have an old version it might help
to update. Current version is A.02.25 from April. I just downloaded but
haven't tested yet. Link is: ftp://ftp.telamon.com/mpe_freeware/.

Example, there now seems to be a variable you can set for (quoting from the
on-line help) "MAILTO -> to (comma-separated for mult)", which might help
your problem with lots of addressees. That didn't exist when I set up my
mail-sending routines.

OT: I'm curious about the 'NNNN' I see at the end of your messages. Haven't
seen that anywhere else since the 80s, with Western Union's Easylink (accessed
on the HP3000 using Telamon's old Network Engine, which puts this paragraph
partly back on topic).

Subject: [HP3000-L] Using Old Telamon E-mail Idiosyncrasies

I'm looking for idiosyncrasies about running Telamon's old e-mail engine
in the ESP account (since there are no decent instructions anywere.)
Telamon doesn't have their website anymore, it leads you to useless
CalAmp products.

Some things I've already noticed:

You can't run it with the RUN command, "Implied" run is the only way it
works.

The prompting "-i" feature doesn't work in batch.

You only get 512 characters of string input in batch. (So if you have a
lot of addressees, you must send the same e-mail over again with a new
list of addressees.)

It fails within MPEX in batch (maybe it has something to do with input
string ending a line with "&" and starting a new line with "!".) It
seems to be required.
