I was mis-reading the "DISCFREE" listing -- I re-did it with option "C" and
I find that the new ldev 2 is 99% free.

This "new" disc drive is actually just a replacement for the original ldev 2
that got whacked quite some time ago.

So there really isn't a problem with that --

However, as I have discovered I *do* have a more serious problem with this
replacement drive --

After powering down my box and powering it back up again and rebooting --
the system doesn't recognize ldev 2. The message I get is "Ldev 2 configured,
not available."
Because of this, I get a ton of error messages on the console and ldev 2 is
loaded as a "LONER."

So then I reboot again, the system comes up, recognizes ldev 2 and
everything is ok......

This is more of a pain in the u-know-what than a disaster..........

That'll teach me for buying a cheapo drive off e-bay rather than buying it
from a reputable 3rd
party vendor.

Anyone have a clue as to why the drive is not recognized by the system first
time up...?

Brian.
