Colleagues,
Whereas Mondays are always hectic, I wanted to send out a reminder for today's lunch-hour lecture.
Today at noon (12:00-1:00 in the Raccoon Mtn. Room), Dr. Kevin DeLuca from the University of Georgia will give a lunch-hour presentation on the subject of new media and environmental activism. DeLuca has worked in various environmental communities for years, primarily as a scholar studying the tactics of these organizations. Specifically, his research has been devoted to the subject of "image events" or staged acts of protest that are designed for media distribution. He has published extensively on the subject, and his recent book _Image Politics: The New Rhetoric of Environmental Activism_ traces the early work of Greenpeace activists to more contemporary uses of images (by protest groups/organizations) as these images frame public debate.
The lecture is free and open to the community. Refreshments provided.
