Thanks to one and all who replied so promptly to my dilemma.
I removed the tape drive, unplugged the power connector and the scsi cable
and then
reconnected them again.
Rebooted the system and the message said "configured and available"
So once the system was up I tried a backup with the store command and
ouila(!)
IT WORKED !!
Can't believe it..........
Thanks to everyone, you all know who you are........
Brian.
Yes, this posting is actually on topic, sorry about that.....
My box is a 917LX.
The DDS-3 Tape drive stopped loading tapes, kept kicking them out.
So I put a replacement DDS-3 tape drive in its place this morning. Pretty
simple thing to do, or at least it seemed to be.
The "new" (actually a refurbished) DDS-3 tape drive loads the tapes just
fine but I noticed I wasn't getting the console message that tells me the tape
is online. Now that made me suspicious.
I went back to the ISL prompt and tried a DUMP inside ODE and I got the
following error messages:
Can't access tape at 52.0.0
Status -31281 ($85CF) From subsystem 213 ($D5)
Can not access the tape device
Status 1025 ($401) From Subsystem 149 ($95)
The pins at the back of the DDS-3's are identical so I removed the old DDS-3
and replaced it
with the newer one.
I made no changes in Sysgen at all.
I have rebooted the box with a tape in the drive and also with no tape in
the drive.
When the system comes up it tells me that LDEV 7 is configured but
not-available.
Any help would be appreciated.
TIA,
Brian Donaldson.
