My many thanks to all those who helped me with this problem last night
with their useful suggestions.  The problem turned out to be rooted in an
incompatable OPEN clause on the BILLING FILE statement.  The circumstance
was triggered by a recent change made to the calling program but only
revealed by the recompile of the slave screen as part of a complete
rebuild. (which is why we periodicaly rebuild the entire application
system so we only have at most one or two of these situations at a time).
