Tracy - over the years I heard she was a spy for the US - and executed by
the Japanese, now living secretly in New Jersey....)obviously different
stories)

There was an interesting program on PBS about Amelia - a woman resurrected a
Lockheed and duplicated her flight around 1992 - and a WW2 navigator felt
that she was
low because of clouds - looking for Howland Island which was all of 30-40
miles away - couldn't find it - kept flying north and south till she ran it
of gas.

Ditching the life rafts and the long range trailing antenna (250' long)
before the flight led to her
death ...

There was an interesting story of her ignoring Fred Noonan - the ace
navigator from Pan Am that when sober was the best - when they reached the
coast of Africa from Brazil Noonan told her to turn south to find Dar Es
Salem (I think that was the destination) - Earhart turned north - couldn't
find it - turned south and eventually got there - Howland a replay with less
gas?

Bill
