Ron Horner writes
The challenge in using COBOL is that you can't change the intrinsic
library that the program uses. That's why Pascal or C are preferred
with working with AIF's.

You can't change the intrinsic file within the program itself, but you can
use a different intrinsic file with a file equate :FILE
SYSINTR=AIFINTR.PUB.SYS. To do this your AIF calls must be within a
subprogram that doesn't need to do any standard intrinsic calls.
