Answers:

You don't need to upgrade/replace the current processor.
You only need to have the model string changed.
The processor you have now physically runs at 440mhz.
The only thing causing it run at 1/2 speed is "slowdown" code in MPE.
Change the model string, change the speed.

If you put a 2nd processor in the box, the model string will need 
to be N4000-200-44.
