Imagine a law in the U.S. that says 10% of migrant
farm workers must be U.S. Citizens...
As a kid, I spent 7 summers de-tasseling corn and roguing. It was great, not only 7 days per week, but sometimes 12 hours per day. Hence, we had no time to spend our earnings. So at the end of the summer, we had a nice chunk of earnings.
In the early 70's, there were over 30,000 acres of strawberries in Oregon. Then some brilliant law makers decided it was abusing children (ages 12-17) to have them work in the strawberry fields.
There are currently about 2,000 acres of strawberries produced in Oregon. Way to go Legislators!
