I suppose the next thing to do is to remove the file status processing
from the program and see what raw Tombstone abort message you get from
MPE.   (At the same time, check for file equates in the session/job).

yep, as long as CKERROR is properly documented (that's from Cobol68,
right?), ksam-status "9{" really does equate to mpe error 123 - notice
that { is ascii(123).
