John,
It's been a while since I played with pins/cables. Off the top of my head, at a minimum, you need 3 pins:
DB9 DB25
Send 2 2
Receive 3 3
Ground 5 7
Ground is easy. I may have reversed Send/Receive but the idea is to have them straight-thru. In some cables or on some devices, the Send/Receive had to be crossed as in 2<-->3 and 3<-->2.
Some devices also liked to have the DTR signal. I remember jumping pins 5 and 20 on a DB25 to keep DTR "high".
Make sure the serial connection speed on the printer matches the print server.
Good luck.
François

Subject: [HP3000-L] Pins for 2563A serial to Print Server
I wonder if anyone can help.
I have an old HP2563A printer which has been hooked up to an HP3000 via a DTC in
the past.
I now want to attach it to the network using a print server.
However, the printserver has a 9-pin connection whereas the serial connection on
the printer is a 25-pin.
Can anyone help me with the pinouts for the 9-pin to the 25-pin so I can get this
printer to work on the network?
Thanks,
John Dunlop
