You might remember a little posting of mine about body armor a month or so
back.  I did spend some time explaining that tanks without infantry support
were sitting ducks in WWII.  And actually the 40 kph noted here makes it one
of the faster tanks of WWII.  One should also remember that this speed was
over nice flat open ground, in more difficult terrain, the speed was much
less (making them even more like squatting waterfowls.)

Further, all tanks had to stop before they could fire accurately.  The speed
and agility that we see now, along with the highly accurate shoot on the
move are things that are very recent.  Indeed, one of the reasons the
coalition bowled over the Iraqi defenses in 1991 and in 2003 was the fact
the coalition tanks could do these things and the Soviet-era Iraqi tanks
could not.  Couple this with the vastly inferior armor and gun of the Iraqi
tanks and there you are.
