DHHS has announced the FY 06 Drug Free Communities Support Program
grant competition. The deadline is April 10, 2006. Approximately $12
million will be available to fund 120 awards.

The purpose of this program is to reduce substance abuse among youth and
adults and establish and strengthen collaboration among communities,
private nonprofit agencies, and federal, state, local, and tribal
governments to support the efforts of community coalitions to prevent
and reduce substance abuse among youth.

Funds are intended to support community-based coalitions in their
efforts to address and reduce substance abuse among youth. To be
eligible for funding, a coalition must have been actively operating for
at least six months prior to the deadline application. If you are not
currently a part of a community coalition , but would like to secure
this funding to address substance abuse in our community, now is the
time to organize or join a coalition so that you will be eligible for
funding in the FY07 competition. For additional information about the
coalition requirements and to see the full program announcement, please
