I believe STORE to $null, in essence, makes a copy of the compressed
file prior to its purge. I remember a situation where StN was used to
purge some files from a nearly full system volume set, and the store
process itself actually reduced the disk space as part of its process by
an amount that could not be explained by a $syslist file.
I haven't read all the responses on this thread, but what's wrong with a
system level UDC that limits the PURGEGROUP command to specific
userid(s)? The private volume UDCs that Jeff had posted on jazz did
something similar.
