Home Depot in Chandler closes after car slams into store; no one hurt
Dec. 19, 2005 12:00 AM
He wasn't an early shopper, but this Grinch ruined the day for many Home
Depot customers in Chandler.
At 6:18 a.m. Sunday, a small car crashed through the front doors of a
Home Depot store at Chandler Boulevard and Alma School Road, said
Chandler fire Battalion Chief Dan Couch. The car veered through the
store and came to a stop in the paint aisle, where it caught fire, Couch
said.
No one was hurt in the accident, which happened before the store opened,
he said.
Firefighters extinguished the fire quickly, but a precautionary
hazardous-materials investigation took most of the day, and the store
remained closed.
Police arrested the driver, a former employee, whose identity hasn't
been released. He was charged with arson and aggravated assault.
The car was gray or silver-gray when it went in the store, Couch said.
It was black when it came out.
