i think in this particular instance, the problem is that your slashes
are backwards.  to demonstrate:

:listfile ./lib@,1
 PATH= /SYS/PUB/

 CODE  ------------LOGICAL RECORD-------  FILENAME
         SIZE  TYP        EOF      LIMIT

           1B  BAL          9       1024   libmpe_g.sl

:echo ![finfo('/SYS/PUB/libmpe_g.sl','exists')]
TRUE
