That appears to be the case.
If I just go straight into an ADD I get a default of 72 (80 with the line
number), which stops accepting characters after the 72nd.
If I use the NEW command and specify a longer record, it accepts up to the
specified line, with the line wrapping on the screen as you go. A wider
screen setting would avoid that.

So, given that QUAD will truncate lines otherwise, I infer that one
must execute the NEW command first and then add lines to the file.
