If you check the archives, you will find that I have mentioned Paralan
several times over the years as an alternative for HVD connection. I have
been using them for about 5-6 years now and they have worked well, most of
the time. I have recommended them and continue to do so. That was what I
was implying in the "other SCSI solutions."

However, the original message was asking about HBA recommendations for a
Windows Server and given the choice, I would rather go with an HVD HBA
directly rather than use a converter; it's simpler. The AHA 2944 will do
exactly David is looking to do and is a very well known device to Windows,
Linux, etc. As far as I am concerned, the 294x is the reference device for
this kind of stuff. Drivers are not a problem; they are in Windows since
way back in Windows NT 3.51.

However, Francesco does bring back a good point on which I will expand here.
If your HP3000 has HVD devices and you are thinking of homesteading, you may
want to look into Paralan or equivalent for future device support. The last
HVD disk drive built rolled out the factory in the prior millennium or
thereabouts.

 www.Paralan.com

We have a HVD<->LVD (bi-directional) adapter and we have a few LVD drives
connected
to our Hp3k. This has been in place for years and it works like
a champ.

The opposite is true too. It will let you connect HVD drives to any LVD
scsi adapter.
I highly recommend their stuff.
