The log files are in a different group and on a different volume
set than the database files. They are none-the-less in the same
account. However, I took your meaning and tested its implications
by creating a logid in the SYS account and assigning it to a
database in another account and this worked. I clearly
misapprehended the relationships between log files, log ids, and
logging processes.

This is odd then:
:getlog atestlid;log=some1001.logs,disc;auto

Log file must reside in the logon group and account. (CIERR 1250)
