You may have been thinking that the 'penv' files were too mysterious & flaky.
Googling the 'L' reveals posts saying that they are for older printers, not
current laserjets. Printing with 'land.hpenv.sys' as the env file does not
print landscape on my neighborhood laserjet. Printing with 'port.env.sys'
prints portrait, but that is the default, so it doesn't prove much.

Meanwhile, your 8-year-old file covers the basics:
0o portrait mode
2a letter size paper
6d 6 lines per inch
3e top margin 3 lines
60f max 60 lines per page (sets bottom margin)
(s10H 10 characters per inch

A fanatic might reset the printer to its defaults first, and/or send more
codes, for font, fixed or variable spacing, duplex, tray-selection, barbeque
sauce (if he has been reading OT: posts) etc.

Did this come up just from curiousity, or was your file unsatisfactory in some
way and you were looking for something better ?

Dave Powell, MMfab
