Jean,
From my experience (and the generally accepted rule of thumb for non-PCI HP3000s), about 20-25 Mb is what 100Bt performance is going to be.
I don't believe you're 3Com switch is having any impact on performance. The key items are to make sure you don't specify Autosense for half/full duplex in MPE and make sure the switch port and the 3000 are set the same (half or full). That'll be about the best you can shoot for.

Subject: [HP3000-L] 100 base T performance over 3com switch

I am a bit deceived over the performance of the 100 Base T network card on the HP979KS/400. Ok, it is twice as fast as the 10 Base T (of what I had before). I get about 2.0 Mbyte/s or 16 Mbits/s. I was actually expecting somewhere in the range of 80 Mbits/s. The 3com switch (model 3C16792A) I am using has 2.5 Mbytes of cache. I specified the maximum buffer size in NMGR i.e 50. The funny thing is when I copy a file from one pc to another I get transfer rates of 115Kbytes/s. I don't understand, PC's are supposed to be a lot faster. The supervisor software that comes freely with 3Com does not give much info. Some of the software out there cost $600 and up. I am looking for a software that will show possible collisions i.e troubleshoot if necessary the network. The 16 port switch that I have carry a 3Gbit/s bandwidth overall. Should I have bought a more expensive unit for better performance?

Has anyone been able to obtain better performance on an HP9x9 box?

Thanks,

Jean Huot
